Often underestimated compared to other senses, the sense of smell plays a crucial role in human experience. It not only enables the identification of odors but also significantly influences emotional, cognitive, and social processes. Olfactory awareness—the ability to perceive and respond to olfactory cues—affects attitudes and behaviors, making smell a key channel for social communication. Research shows that smells can evoke memories and emotions, shaping the way people relate to their environment and to each other. The interaction between smell and other mental systems highlights its importance in areas such as education, communication, and psychology. Understanding how the olfactory system works and its impact on human behavior can improve communicative and pedagogical strategies and provide deeper insight into human interactions.
