Abstract

Mental health problems are the leading cause of global disability, and in Sweden it is identified as a significant public health problem. Since 2008, mental health has been a national public policy, focusing on improving well-being and addressing suicide. A diagnostic framework is established that identifies the causes of the problem in three groups: social structures (family, economy, education), social forces (prejudices and stereotypes), and individual factors (behavior and personality). Solutions are addressed through a prognostic framework, which proposes political reforms and cultural changes, being a pioneer country in prevention programs and public policies against suicide.
