This study analyses gaming practices, the use of anonymity strategies and the perception of sexism in online multiplayer video games. Based on a survey of N= 925 16-29 year olds, significant sex/gender differences are identified. The results showed a greater tendency among women and people of other genders to protect their identity and to identify stereotypes and discriminatory dynamics, which underlines the need to apply a gendered approach to the study of MMOs.
