The widespread democratization of artificial intelligence (AI) and its resulting large-scale content production are transforming the communication landscape and posing new challenges to the expansion of transmedia storytelling. This study examines the impact of AI on transmedia storytelling through a bibliometric review of 594 articles published in Scopus-indexed Social Sciences journals. The findings show that, although transmedia storytelling has a larger cumulative body of research, AI-related communication research has grown rapidly, surpassing it in annual publication output since 2024. The analysis also reveals a marked academic disconnect between both fields, reflected in the absence of shared authors and hybrid publications. The study concludes that scholarly priorities are shifting from narrative expansion toward automation and algorithmic control. Finally, it highlights the need for an epistemic convergence integrating transmedia design, AI ethics, and media literacy.
